I’ve always loved to write. Over time, I dreamed of having my own books out in the world … which eventually happened. But my first career was teaching and I loved it! Along the way, teaching fed my desire to write for publication. I was surrounded by kids and books and kids that loved books. But back then, my creative energy was focused on content for my students.

While teaching, I did a lot of research about how to get published and the different publishing routes. So after retiring, I got serious and actually started writing toward the goal of publication. That was in 2011.

In 2015, There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight hit the shelves. In 2017, A Cooked-Up Fairy Tale was published. Both of these books are illustrated by the super-talented Ben Mantle. And both are from Random House Books for Young Readers.

Merry Christmas, Dear Mars will be illustrated by Estrela Lourenço and published in the fall of 2024 by Macmillan/Holt/Godwin. The Spider Lady: Nan Songer and Her WWII Arachnid Army will be illustrated by Anne Lambelet and published in the spring of 2025 by Astra/Calkins Creek.

I’m represented by Tricia Lawrence of the Erin Murphy Literary Agency. Check out my website to learn more about my books. https://pennyklostermann.com/
